September 11
I was a college student at Grand Canyon University at this time, and I can remember waking up to the news, seeing and hearing about this horrific tragedy, and all that lost their lives on this day.
On September 11, we are remembering all of the passengers, crew members, and people that lost their lives on September 11 as a result of this immense attack and tragedy.
In addition, I want to take a moment to recognize and give great honor to the heroic men and women that risked their lives and provided unwavering, courageous support and love on September 11, 2001. Thank you to the Firefighters, police officers, EMT's, construction workers, and Military Service men and women for your courage and heroism.
Greetings CPJMA Families,
I hope that you had an incredible weekend with your kiddos and family! At the end of this month, please be on the lookout for the LCFF document that will be sent home with your child. We aim for a 100% LCFF form completion rate for our school. LCFF dollars help us to fund programs, support our teachers and students, and fund integral support staff positions on our campus. We are a small school with a tiny school budget. More information will be included in next week's update regarding LCFF forms and how essential and crucial the 100% completion rate is for CPJMA.
Thank you for your support to our teachers and staff! Thank you for sending your kiddos to CPJMA!
Families please save the date for our Fall Open House, which will be held on Wednesday, September 20, from 4:00-5:30 p.m.
IMPORTANT - HEADS UP:
Our construction team will be completing a 3-week site water phasing plan beginning September 15. This plan will impact the front entrance gates, but will only impact one front gate entrance area at a time, in order to allow for the use of the opposite gate so that parents and visitors are able to access a front gate entrance. There will be a section that will be safely fenced off that will begin from the area near the back of building 100 (building where all K-5 classes are located), along the perimeter of the blacktop, up to the student water fountains closest to the student bathrooms. The student restrooms will not be blocked off. In addition, a section of the area that students line up at on the blacktop will be fenced in. The back classroom doors will still be accessible. The water fountains near the student restrooms will be blocked off/fenced in. However the student water fountains closest to the UTK classrooms will be accessible. The site water phasing plan is expected to be a 3-week plan.
Have a fabulous week ahead!
With Gratitude & Appreciation,
Sakeenah

--------- Additional Minimum Days---------
CPJMA will continue to have every Wednesday as our minimum day each week (12:15 dismissal). In addition, the following days below have been approved by our district as additional minimum days this school year for CPJMA:
--------- Volunteering on Campus ---------
We are in great need of parent volunteers during our lunch recess blocks, specifically during our three lunch recess periods: UTK 11:20-11:40, K-2nd 12:00-12:20, 3rd-5th 12:25-12:45. If you are able to volunteer to supervise during a lunch recess period, please complete the volunteer form (see link below) and bring proof of a recent negative TB test.
Interested in volunteering in your child's classroom: Many of our teachers send information on options to volunteer in their classrooms usually sometime between the 3rd-6th week of school. In our lower grade classes, it is important to first build independence (at school) in our younger students, to allow them time to learn the classroom routines, structures, classroom environment, and teacher expectations, absent of the parents being in the classroom. Should you have any questions about volunteering in the your child's classroom, please reach out directly to your child's teacher regarding your questions.
*Parents that sign up with their child's teacher to chaperone at a field trip during the school year must have a current volunteer application on file, and provide proof of the results of a current TB test

--------- Arrival and Dismissal Logistics ---------
ARRIVAL (Morning Drop-Off)
ALL CPJMA students will enter the school through the cafeteria exterior doors located on Pacific Beach Drive. The cafeteria doors will close at 7:40 a.m. sharp. Students that arrive after 7:40 will need to enter through the front of the school gate located on Ingraham.
On the first day of school, parents may walk students directly to their classrooms. After the first day of school, parents may walk students directly to the blacktop each morning and MUST QUICKLY EXIT the campus when the teachers arrive at the blacktop at 7:37/7:40, as we will need to close and lock the cafeteria doors to secure our campus, and to allow for our teachers to begin their day with classes. Please do not congregate with other parents at this time, please exit the school promptly after the students are picked up by their teachers on the blacktop
DISMISSAL (Afternoon Pick-Up)
- UTK - All UTK students will be dismissed out of their classrooms. A UTK staff member will open and remain at the UTK playground gate (green gate) located on Fortuna, and UTK parents may walk directly to the UTK classroom doors to pick up their child. (Older student siblings can be picked up here if the parent has made this prior arrangement with both teachers)
- Kindergarten & 1st grade students(and older student siblings if the parent has made this prior arrangement with both teachers) will dismiss from the gate area located on Fortuna, directly next to the UTK gate.
- 2nd - 5thgrade students will dismiss from the cafeteria exterior doors located on Pacific Beach Drive.
Arrival/Dismissal Safety:
In order to facilitate safety and efficiency with our morning drop off and pick up process, we need your help parents. Please be safe and efficient when dropping your child off. When you pull onto the side of the curb/side of the street closest to the arrival/dismissal entry point, we need you to move your car ALL THE WAY FORWARD and QUICKLY drop off or pick up your child. Please try your best to stay in your car (if you are not walking your child onto campus). It is important that we keep traffic moving along. The school police officer assigned to our cluster is not able to support us with traffic duty, as he supports all five of the schools in the Mission Bay Cluster, and is mainly at Mission Bay High School. Please do not double park. Please do not park in the middle of the street. In addition, if your car is parked at the curb while you are actively sitting in it, I will ask you to let your child out of the car so that we can keep traffic flowing in an effort to not back up Pacific Beach Drive. In addition, I am asking all parents to not permit nor encourage your child to walk/or run across the north side of PB Drive without using the crosswalk. Please use the crosswalk with your child. This is extremely important. Please practice safety by using the crosswalk, rather than running/walking across the street/and or allowing your child to run across the street as that is NOT SAFE. Please demonstrate safety, common sense, and patience when dropping your child off at school and picking them up from school. If you are able to help our school with traffic control during morning arrival or afternoon dismissal (by volunteering your time to direct cars to move forward/supporting the flow of traffic, signaling, etc.), please email Principal Smith (me) at [email protected]. Thank you tons!

--------- School Communication ---------
Teacher Communication: You will receive several papers/forms the first week back that need to be signed and sent back to the campus with your child. Please ensure that you connect with your child’s teacher regarding their preferred method of parent communication (email, Class Dojo, weekly newsletters, etc.). It is imperative that you stay connected with your child’s teacher.
THE TEACHER-PARENT RELATIONSHIP is most critical to the growth and success in your child's educational journey.
Principal/School Communication: The school principal will send out an email weekly update message EVERY SUNDAY afternoon with communication about the upcoming school week, important events and dates, etc. Please ensure that your email address that is listed in Parent Portal is accurate and spelled correctly, and that you are checking this email weekly (check your spam folder) so that you do not miss communication from the school. I have heard some parents state to other parents that they do not receive any email communication from the school...I can tell you that this simply is just NOT CORRECT. I send out the weekly principal update every Sunday, and if you are not checking/reading your email (check your spam folder), then please make a commitment this new school year to ensure that you read the principal weekly update EVERY WEEK. Also, contact the school office if you need to make corrections to your email address, or if you are not receiving the weekly email from the school. Many times we have checked when a parent says that they are not receiving our weekly communication, and we have seen that the email address that the parent typed into ParentPortal was spelled incorrectly, and or a letter/number was left off of the email address. I want to restate that I send parent communication out for the upcoming school week EVERY SUNDAY. As a parent, it is your responsibility to ensure that you are receiving and reading this weekly communication in order to stay current in all things CPJMA. We have a very tiny school budget, so about 90% of the parent communication that is sent out to parents/families is sent electronically. Please take the time to check your emails and read the principal’s weekly update every week :). I appreciate you immensely, and thank you in advance for doing this!

In addition, I am asking all parents to not permit nor encourage your child to walk/or run across the opposite side of the street without using the crosswalk.

PTO: We have an extremely amazing, active, and supportive Parent Teacher Organization. Our PTO parents have done so much to support our students and staff! I encourage all parents to get involved with our school by supporting our PTO, and consider being on the PTO, and/or helping with PTO fundraising events, as the funds that our PTO raise go directly into the school to create the BEST OPPORTUNITIES for our students (art experiences, science experiences, whole child experiences, field trips, supplies/resources for our teachers, theater/drama programs, supporting with our music/violin programs, celebrations for our students and staff, and extra-curricular events/activities for our students). Please email [email protected] and/or visithttps://friendsofcpjma.com/ for more information on how to get involved with our PTO to support our school.
